Marius Thériault is a geographer. After receiving a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Quebec in Rimouski (1974), he went on to receive a Master’s (1977) and a PhD (1984) from Laval University. In 2000, after 21year as a professor in the Geography department at Laval University, he moved to the École supérieure d’aménagement du territoire et de développement régional (ÉSAD) (Graduate School of Regional Planning and Development). Since 1978, he has been teaching climatology, geo-simulation of uban dynamics and transportation modeling. His research is conducted at the Centre de recherche en aménagement et développement (CRAD) and at the Centre de recherche en géomatique (CRG) at Laval University. He is retired since 2013 and received the emeritus professor title in 2015.
His research interests include real estate markets, urban transportation, access to services, environment quality, geomatics and territory planning. He has been a visiting professor at several universities in Switzerland and France. The results of his research have been published in almost 50 scientific journals and he has published several books on urban dynamics, both in French and English. Lastly, he is an editor for the French edition of the Canadian Geographic magazine.
